You have found the site — a courtyard behind a hotel, a terrace above a car park, a plot at the end of a single-track lane. The real question is not how much floor area fits on the plan, but whether a venue unit can be brought in, set level, opened up and taken out again when the season ends. That answer decides which of the options in front of you is realistic.

The Four Ways a Temporary Venue Arrives

• Panel and tent systems arrive flat-packed and are built on site: crews, ladders, anchors or ballast, and a weather window — then dismantled and rebuilt next time.
• Modular units and container conversions arrive as separate modules needing a crane or telehandler, hard standing for that machine, and a delivery route it can use.
• A permanent building removes the site logistics but adds foundations, excavation, permits and a long lead time.
• A towed unit that expands arrives as one complete body, is positioned, levelled and opened, with no panel-by-panel build and no lift of the structure itself.

The Weakest Point Decides, Not the Average

Access is rarely decided by the widest part of the route. It is decided by the narrowest gate, the lowest cable, the tightest turn, the weakest surface and the slope where the unit has to sit. Measure the route rather than the plot, and photograph the three tightest points before anyone quotes you.

Check the ground where the unit will stand — bearing, flatness and drainage — not only the delivery point, and ask where a crane could stand if your shortlisted option needs one. Decide how often the unit moves, too: a venue that relocates every season carries a different cost structure from one that stays put for five years. Then agree who handles permits, traffic management and any oversized-load notification on the last leg. One narrow gate can rule out an otherwise ideal site, whatever the plan says.

One Option Is an Expandable Event Trailer

What to Settle in Writing Before You Buy

• What is the transport envelope for my configuration, and what access and turning space does it need?
• What ground condition and level tolerance does the standing area need?
• What is required on arrival — a towing vehicle or local haulier, levelling equipment, anything else?
• If the unit moves several times a year, what should be checked before each move?
• What is the closed footprint, and how much clear space is needed once it is open?
