Brazil is one of the markets where a unit approved somewhere else does not simply carry over. The three questions Brazilian buyers raise first are always the same: is the chassis the same as the one sold here, do these units actually reach Brazil from China, and can Chinese wiring and electrical parts be used. None of those are answered by the unit itself — they are answered by Brazilian import and registration practice, which is why they belong at the start of the project.

Two separate approvals, not one

The vehicle side and the electrical side are handled under different rules. A trailer that will be plated and driven in Brazil normally has to go through Brazilian type approval for its category and configuration with the federal traffic authority; a chassis homologated for Europe or Australia is not a substitute. The same applies if you plan to mount a locally bought chassis — the approved configuration has to match what you actually build. Units in the trailer heading (8716) already arrive from China in commercial volumes, so what stops most first orders is the approval route.

The electrical side is separate again. Cables, plugs, protection devices and control components placed on the Brazilian market commonly fall under national conformity assessment requirements, so an installation built to a Chinese domestic or European standard is not automatically accepted. Ask your own engineer or despachante which route applies — a road-registered unit and a unit used only on private land are different projects — because that answer decides what must be specified at order stage.

What it changes in your order

• Electrical architecture. Brazil runs on 60 Hz with 127/220 V distribution, so supply, sockets, air-conditioning and control gear are specified differently from a 50 Hz build.
• Where the parts come from. Decide whether components are bought locally and fitted after arrival or named on the order so they ship with the unit.
• Who signs it off. Local fit-out usually has to be inspected and documented locally, so that step needs an owner before production starts.
• What the supplier documents. The normal set is commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, model specification and component declarations; registration filings stay with you.

Shipping, and the five answers to settle first

Folded units travel in a transport envelope, and the practical question is whether your chosen model suits a 40HQ high cube — roughly 12.19 × 2.44 × 2.90 m of internal space — or needs breakbulk or roll-on roll-off instead. That decision changes freight, the lifting equipment at the port of discharge and how much assembly stays on site, so settle it before the deposit.

Then get five answers in writing: which approval route applies; the electrical specification and who signs it off locally; whether the model fits a 40HQ or ships another way; who handles local assembly, warranty labour and spare parts; and which documents the supplier issues against which documents your agent files. Treat every compliance answer as confirmed only by the competent authority in Brazil.
